The role

This is an exciting opportunity to play your part within a team of dedicated Tree Services Team working within the Parks & Open Spaces department as the Council expands the capacity of the teams so that they can meet the challenges of climate change. 

The Service is responsible for the management of Council owned trees. Currently, 11,720 street trees, (10,574 housing estate trees), 8766 park and 2525 cemetery & crematorium trees. 205 of the park tree records are classed as woodland tree groupings meaning that the total over 37,000 trees.

The principle duties will be to carry out inspections and surveys updating our database, you will recommend, implement and oversee appropriate works and build close working partnerships with contractors, Officers, elected members and stakeholders.  

You will need to be resilient and excellent at communicating in a calm and effective manner in order to deal with the public, Councillors and other stakeholders.

With experience and a relevant qualification in Arboriculture, you will be fully conversant with current arboriculture practices and legislation. Good IT skills and experience of using tree management databases and hardware is essential as we use the Arbotrack database. You will also be expected to assist in the 24 hour emergency call out system.

A full driving licence is required.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient Tree Services Officer who can bring in depth, authoritative knowledge and experience to the role. The current team of 2 have over 60 years of experience and the new Officer will be initially working alongside them to ensure that a consistency of approach is delivered for all our stakeholders.   

Salary details

N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
