The role
Our Property Management Service is looking for a Health & Safety Manager who will be responsible for developing and implementing Health & Safety management systems across the Directorates activities including its statutory and regulatory compliance. These activities include construction, repairs and servicing activities across the Councils Property Portfolio which includes 33,000 Housing units including sheltered accommodation, Schools, Children Centre, Corporate and Commercial Buildings. This role is responsible for supporting and advising managers on the delivery of safe H&S processes.

In this role you will be responsible for developing, delivering and embedding a positive H&S culture across the service developing systems to ensure the safety of employees including the Repairs Service which has circa 300 operatives carrying out repairs/construction activities across the Borough. You will motivate, develop and performance manage staff to maintain an effective workforce capable of meeting its objectives.

This role will involve working closely with the Housing, Estate Management and Corporate team to align processes, best practice and key objectives. As part of the corporate strategy you will prepare, monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators to Property Management in order to minimise risks, encourage ownership and achieve business priorities.

About you
In this role you will need a Health and Safety degree, NEBOSH Diploma or the equivalent. You will also be a Chartered Member of the IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards this with evidence of ongoing CPD.

We are looking for someone who has extensive and up to date knowledge and understanding of health and safety responsibilities applicable to local authority asset management services including Housing and Building Safety compliance. You will have experience implementing Health and Safety management systems and auditing i.e. ISO 45001.

You will be a collaborative worker with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders to establish their needs and issues to resolve problems and proactively manage risk.

This role will require you to have specialist knowledge including construction, asbestos, legionella, fire and gas.
