SHiFT exists to break the destructive cycle of children caught up in, or at risk of, crime and associated behaviour. SHiFT Greenwich is seeking a full time SHiFT Guide to join our outstanding Practice of 5 Guides and a Practice Coordinator. SHiFT Guides are highly skilled and experienced in working with children and young people, are exceptional communicators, and bring energy and drive to provide exceptional services to children, young people and their families. Guides are resilient, highly autonomous, and flexible, working confidently and dynamically in fast-moving and/or uncertain contexts. The Greenwich SHiFT Practice is a collaboration between SHiFT Organisation ltd (a registered Charity) and Children's Services at the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Job Role
SHiFT works with children and young people up to the age of 25 for whom things are getting worse, not better, and who would benefit most from an intense, therapeutic relationship. SHiFT offers children an intensive (at least 18 months), needs and strengths-led, therapeutic relationship. Investing time enables SHiFT to create trust, build stability and provide consistency.
Working as highly skilled, multidisciplinary teams of professionals, SHiFT gets alongside young people who are among the most vulnerable and causing the most harm to themselves and others. We start from wherever a young person is, working systemically with them, their family, friends, and community (including all statutory professionals in their lives) to develop high trust, culturally competent and strengths-driven relationships that catalyse pro-social change.
SHiFT Guides are able to affectively assess and manage risk and are high skilled in safeguarding children and young people. Highly professional and creative in approach, SHiFT Guides are able to quickly establish rapport with young people and stakeholders across a wide range of services.
We know that change is difficult. We also know that young people in conflict with the law have complex and overlapping education, health, and social care needs, and that offending behaviours can mask significant and underlying vulnerabilities. Recognising this, SHiFT commits to doing whatever it takes to break destructive cycles of harm and trauma. Unconstrained by age, geographic or professional boundaries, SHiFT starts with aspiration and belief in the young people in our care. We support them with unrivalled intensity, longevity, and ambition - our work with young people finishes when they are set on a path for success.
SHiFT Guides work closely with services across Greenwich and work intensively with children across all of the settings and with all of the people that are important to them. This of course includes schools. SHiFT Greenwich is already achieving fantastic educational outcomes and progress for the children it supports and the Practice is eager to do more and influence positive change across more schools within Greenwich. These ambitions are the catalyst for advertising new roles as part of the Practice.
The ideal SHiFT Guide candidate will:
- Be persistent, flexible and determined; able to identify the "hook" that motivates a young person to think, reflect and begin taking steps towards a better life.
- Have extensive knowledge and experience of delivering successful change through evidence-based approaches with children and young people who present with a range of complex needs.
- Have experience of working with professionals from other disciplines, overcoming interprofessional inertia and working in concert for better outcomes for children.
- You will be located in with the Practice Improvement and Development Service, which is part of a successful partnership and at the heart of developments to prevent crime and promote the inclusion of young people in Greenwich.
This is an ideal role for experienced social workers, teachers, youth workers or other professionals who want to invest their professional life in meaningful, skilled and direct work with children.
This role requires an Enhanced DBS Check
As part of SHiFT you will support the continued development of a new way of working. SHiFT wants to harness your experience and input to ensure it continues to demonstrate impact. You will need to be flexible and collaborative; ready to share ideas and take risks to change the lives of children and young people in Greenwich. Apply now!
Interview dates : Thursday 8th / Friday 9th September
