We want to have a finance function that will build a brilliant team to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Following internal promotion, the Financial Strategy Manager post within Corporate Finance is currently being recruited to.

Financial Strategy Manager

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Finance, this is a key role within the finance team. You will take a lead role in the production of the Medium Term Financial Strategy and Forecast, undertaking the necessary financial modelling and resourcing forecasts in addition to the development of robust planning assumptions.

More specifically, you will take a key role in the production of the annual budget and council tax setting report. This includes analysing and interpreting key financial information such as settlement and grant allocations and keeping up to speed with developments in Local Government Finance policy and practice.

The postholder will be required to work closely with Finance Business Partners to undertake the necessary quality assurance for internal and external reporting, with particular regard to putting in the required challenge to assumptions built into forecasting. You will also form important linkages with other colleagues across the business in your role.

You will work closely with the Operational Director of Finance and Head of Corporate Finance on financial strategy and on maintaining financial governance and financial management standards and controls.

You will also support the coordination of production of the Council’s Statement of Accounts. You will support the corporate accounting team to respond to various technical queries from both internal and external audit.

The role has direct line management to one Principal Accountant, plus potentially a CIPFA trainee from time to time, depending on rotations.

General

To be considered for the role you will be a CCAB qualified accountant with significant experience of working at a senior level in a finance team within a large and complex organisation. You should be proficient in all MS Office applications, particularly in Excel where an advanced level of competency will be required.
