About Us

Newham is a vibrant inner-city borough with excellent transport links to the rest of London and South-East England.  The borough boasts iconic landmarks such as the Olympic Park, Excel Centre, Westfield Shopping Centre and the University of East London. Proud to be home to one of the youngest and most diverse cultures across the country, Newham is an exciting and challenging borough.

Newham is changing rapidly, benefiting from significant investment, creating new jobs, homes and opportunities for all.

We are working towards Building a Fairer Newham and this role will be pivotal in communicating the aims of this strategy.  As part of this strategy we will:

- Spend £40 million over the next 4 years to keep our streets and neighbourhoods clean and cut reported fly-tipping by 50 percent.

- Continue the investment in our parks so that at least 10 parks in the borough are awarded the nationally recognised Green Flag by 2026.

- Launch a zero tolerance campaign against misogyny and street harassment experienced by women and girls in Newham to address problematic behaviours.

About You

You'll be at the centre of this - developing communications and campaigns that hit the mark and deliver positive outcomes for our residents .

Working at Newham Council, you’ll benefit from collaborating with a talented group of people that make the communications team unique. We work together to find solutions, sharing ideas to resolve issues as they arise. There are many opportunities to shape communications approaches and to try new ways of reaching key audiences. We want our communications to be innovative and bold.

You'll work with a range of services in environment and sustainable transport, advising on communications approaches, developing strategies and plans, creating content and undertaking evaluation.

This is a fast paced, exciting role where no two days are the same, which is ideal for someone who thrives under pressure. We’re looking for someone who is creative and wants a challenge, and can drive forward multiple projects.

You will be ambitious in your approach, evidencing your communications skills along with the experience of working collaboratively amongst various stakeholders to implement service improvement initiatives.

Closing Date: 15th August 2022
