Job introduction

The Debt Advisor will ensure that vulnerable households indebted to the council are identified and then given appropriate individualised support to provide these households with the opportunities to improve their financial wellbeing in the long-term, whilst also ensuring the council is making responsible and fair decisions in regard to its income recovery processes for vulnerable people.

About the role

The Debt Advisor will sit within the Welfare Support Team of the Revenues and Benefits service, working alongside the Corporate Debt team, as well.  They will collaborate to identify households that need additional support around their debt. Whilst negotiating on behalf of the household to reduce deductions, pause repayment plans, or other debt relief measures, they will work to reduce their overall indebtedness, increase their income and improve their long term financial resilience.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Work Permits: This role does not meet the requirement for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Successful candidates will need to evidence that they have the Right to Work in the UK.
