Temporary Accommodation Contracts & Standards Officer PO1

This post is based in Housing Options

The purpose of this role is to deliver an effective occupancy, property management and contracts management service across all types of temporary accommodation

The successful candidate will be expected to ensure that providers are carrying out occupancy checks. Investigate, detect and deal effectively with perpetrators of tenancy fraud, working in partnership with the Council’s temporary accommodation providers and the Corporate Anti-Fraud Team (CAFT). To prevent and take action in relation to the subletting and abandonment of the Council’s temporary accommodation stock and where appropriate fraudulent housing applications 

When necessary you must be able to carry out inspections and visits for privately owned properties and assess them to ensure that they accord with agreed property standards, specifying works to be carried out, producing reports where necessary. 

You must be able to support and advise TA residents in relation to property condition and management issues.

You must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues that can arise in temporary accommodation in the area of property management.

You will need to be IT literate, numerate, able to analyse reports and have a good understanding of relevant housing legislation.

You will also need to be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills when working with colleagues, stakeholders and service users. You will need to demonstrate your experience of successful collaborative working, across services

The successful candidate will need to evidence the following:

  • Knowledge of Housing legislation
  • Understanding of the HHSRS and Health & Safety legislation
  • The ability to understand and manage the needs of temporary accommodation residents
  • The ability to build affective working relationships with landlords and Agents
  • Excellent written & verbal skills
