Brighton & Hove City Council is one of the City’s largest employers with all the opportunities that may bring. The Repairs and Maintenance service within our housing directorate have an exciting opportunity for a Level 3 apprentice in Installation Electrician and Maintenance Electrician . The Department is responsible for repairs and maintenance of council accommodation carrying out repairs and rewiring of empty homes.
The Installation Electrician and Maintenance Electrician at level 3 is run by Chichester College Group who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The training will consist of on job training and support with workshops held at the Chichester College Campus, with regular reviews and support from the trainer and mentor. Your role will be linked to the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the apprenticeship standard and once you are competent in all these areas you will take an End Point Assessment before successfully completing. You will receive support from a nominated mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship. The expected duration of the apprenticeship is 45 months.

About the role
Apprentices will gain knowledge in Electrical installation learning to carry out a range of electrical repairs and installations in occupied and empty properties including diagnosis of electrical faults, testing and maintenance of electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures such as renewing consumer control unit, fuse/RCD/MCB; cookers, fans, fire alarm, sockets, switches, door bells, external lighting, shower units, electrical heaters using hand and power tools to current legislative standards, performance standards and in accordance with the Council procedures under the guidance of qualified trade employees, suited to the current level of training and development. Whilst gaining invaluable experience in the workplace in applying and putting this learning in practice. You will build and develop relationships with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders and work in a team to meet the requirements of the service.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is term-time only. For part time applicants, where your working week is less than the council’s basic 37 hour week, contracted overtime rated pay will not form part of your working hours. This is because overtime rated pay is payable for hours worked in excess of the council’s basic 37 hour week. Your starting salary will be pro rata based on the basic annual salary elements of pay of £16,128.83.
Work Permits: This role does not meet the requirement for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Successful candidates will need to evidence that they have the Right to Work in the UK.

If you are resident through a visa, leave to remain or other means please confirm type and that any expiry date covers the duration of the apprenticeship once it is due to start.
