The programme

Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east London borough. We’re one of the fastest growing parts of the country, and one of the most diverse boroughs in London. As a council, what we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to make Redbridge a great place to live.

The Community Hubs programme is a flagship initiative at the heart of our vision for the borough.

We are working with residents to co-design and run five Community Hubs and a Civic Hub in accessible locations across the borough. Each hub will reflect local priorities and enable a range of activities and support across the local area. Hubs are physical buildings where local people can come together and use services such as libraries, GP surgeries and community spaces.

You can find out more about the programme here: https://letstalkredbridge.uk.engagementhq.com/hub-page/community-hubs

The role

We are looking for three collaborative, knowledgeable and well-organised Community Hub Leads to lead the design and delivery of Community Hubs in the Seven Kings, Gants Hill and Hainault areas respectively. This role will lead the design and development of the local hub and its operational model, as well as community engagement and partnership development activities.

You will be responsible for the co-creation of the Hub building and model, programme and governance in partnership with residents, community groups, council and health stakeholders, voluntary sector organisations and local businesses. As such, you will need to be able to engage and build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, have experience of designing and leading complex and collaborative processes, and be able to both provide a strategic view and grasp attention to detail.

In Seven Kings, we have engaged with around 1,000 residents and a range of local organisations to develop and submit building plans for the Seven Kings Hub as part of a wider scheme. We are currently producing detailed building designs for the Hub, developing a detailed business case for how it will run, and supporting residents and local partnerships who will use the Hub.

In Gants Hill, we have engaged over 900 residents in the early development of plans for the Gants Hill Hub, producing a set of ‘design principles’ to shape plans for the Hub site. We are currently in the process of appointing a design team to co-design building plans for the Hub with residents, while we develop a Community Vision with them and start to identify how the Hub will be run.

In Hainault, we have established a strategic partnership with Hainault Forest Community Association, who are currently based on the proposed Hainault Hub site, and so far have engaged over 300 residents, local schools and businesses. We will shortly be appointing architects to co-produce ‘design principles’ for the scheme, and will work with residents to produce a Community Vision.

As a senior member of the Community Hubs team, you will play a key role in shaping how the team operates and empowering colleagues to lead change, as well as ensuring that local residents are able to shape what we do.

This exciting role is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to Redbridge communities by leading on the establishment of the first Community Hub, as well as developing new skills and being part of a dynamic team.

Our offices are in Ilford, although as Community Hub Lead you will need to have a presence in your Hub area, while balancing office-based working and working from home.
