This role will contribute to the delivery of Noise and Pollution function(s) within the Noise and Pollution Team including managing effective investigation and resolution of cases.

The role
The noise and pollution team focus is to protect citizens from the negative impacts of noise and pollution to enable them to live and work in a properly regulated, safe, pleasant, and peaceful environment.

Operating with Camden’s daytime noise and pollution team this role incorporates the wide ranging regulation relating to noise, nuisance and pollution including but not limited to construction/licensed premises/people noise/planning applications/environmental pollution and contaminated land.

You will take a lead role and personal responsibility for the investigation and resolution of complaints and service requests in relation to pollution. This will require routine and unplanned site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with relevant legislation. You will investigate, negotiate, and mediate between parties and where necessary use the full range of legal enforcement powers including making cases and presenting evidence in court and at licensing and planning committees to deliver positive outcomes.

The role includes a substantial amount of resolution, preventative and advisory work including formal response to enquiries, planning and licence applications, enquiries in relation to contaminated land, response to member enquiries and Freedom of Information requests.

The role is be based in an enabled and empowered team-focused service where all officers are expected to work flexibly to meet evolving services demands. You will work as one team to assist in the development of a culture where knowledge and experience is shared, and responsibility for making decisions on complex issues is shared where appropriate. This will include deputising providing cover for managers in the services as appropriate.

This role will be based in our day team, as we have a separate out-of-hours service.

About You
You will hold relevant specialist qualifications (BSc/MSc or Diploma in Environmental Health and the EHRB Certificate of Registration or equivalent relevant qualifications) and be competent in the full range of noise and pollution requirements. You will ideally also hold relevant qualifications/experience in one or more of the pollution specialisms such as noise and nuisance, contaminated land, environmental permitting.

You will have an excellent knowledge/understanding of the legislative framework relevant to the team and experience in its application to casework to deal with difficult and complex cases, effectively resolve and deliver innovative interventions, prepare complex legislative documentation, report and recommend enforcement action as well attending court, prepare detailed and accurate written and verbal responses in relation to casework.

To succeed, you will bring a track record of working collaboratively with internal and external partners, demonstrating good outcome focussed customer care and communicational skills to identify innovative and creative approaches to complaints and Camden objectives. You will have the ability to take an organised approach to your own workload whilst dealing with conflicting priorities and to ensuring a customer service focused approach.
