In Camden we are committed to working together to make our borough the best place to live, work, study, and visit. Partnership with our communities is central to the way we work, so that everyone can access opportunities, and nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.
The Welfare Rights Team is based within Camden’s Landlord Services section and provides benefits and debt advice to residents across the London Borough of Camden.
We are seeking a Senior Debt & Financial Inclusion Adviser to provide a debt advice casework service to our Camden residents and to provide coaching, training and advice to colleagues across the council.
The role involves working with our residents living in Camden’s homes. You will advise on all aspects of debt and money management; this includes negotiating with priority and non-priority creditors and completing financial statements, as well as maximising income. The purpose of the role is to help residents manage their debts and be financially resilient and prevent homelessness; ensuring residents have secure, safe and affordable housing that meets their ongoing needs.
The successful post holder will have good working knowledge and experience of the debt advice process, with strong communication, negotiation and advocacy skills. You will be a good team player as well as be able to work independently. You will have either the IMA money advice certificate, or be able to work towards achieving it, and becoming a DRO intermediary.
You will need to demonstrate that you have the ability to meet the 10 key requirements of the role as set out in the job profile under the section ‘About You’.
