Three exciting leadership roles have become available within the Building Safety Team in the GLA’s Housing & Land directorate. If you thrive working on a fast-paced and high-pressure programme, if you have outstanding stakeholder management skills, if you love complex problem-soving and if you can lead a diverse and inclusive team – this job is for you.

Following the tragedy at Grenfell Tower in 2017, an urgent and high-profile crisis has unfolded with many buildings found to be unsafe. The Government has established a number of funding programmes to support the remediation of unsafe buildings and the GLA is administering this funding in London. This programme is central to achieving the Mayor’s vision that all Londoners should benefit from a safe, good quality home.

We are now looking for three Programme Managers to work on the £4.5bn Building Safety Fund. These roles will contribute to the overall leadership of the GLA’s Building Safety Team by line managing up to four staff members and deputising for the Senior Manager (Building Safety). The Programme Manager will provide oversight of the programme, supporting team members to progress their portfolio of buildings who are applying for funding. This includes overall responsibility for legal and technical due diligence processes, complex problem-solving, contracting, and management of the GLA’s relationship with external advisers and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

You will be a good negotiator and communicator, solutions-focused, and able to support the team to deliver a complex programme at pace. You will also have highly developed problem-solving skills. Ideally, you will have a clear track-record in managing a large capital programme in the housing or built environment sector, and proven ability to lead a high-performing team. Technical expertise on fire safety is not required.

We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic candidates and disabled candidates who are currently underrepresented in our workforce.

This role will be based at City Hall, in the Royal Docks (Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE). GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.

If you have a question about the role, please contact megan.life@london.gov.uk or the recruitment process then please contact a member of the recruitment team via email on glarecruitment@engageats.co.uk quoting reference PM03.

Closing date:  Thursday 19 May 2022 at 23:59 GMT.
