ABOUT US

Newham Together – The best place for children and young people (click here to view our recruitment video)

There has never been a more exciting time to enter social work management with Newham, as we continue driving towards our target of becoming a centre of excellence for children’s social care by 2023.

As part of our caseload reduction restructure we have created several Assistant Team Manager (ATM) roles within our Safeguarding and Intervention service, including this position within the DCYPS/Children with Disabilities team. We aim to bring about positive change, enabling children to remain safely with their families and in their communities; and this role is an opportunity to practice social work following the reason most enter the profession, to genuinely improve the quality of children’s lives.

Joining Newham as we continue on our improvement journey will be an invaluable experience and will improve any practitioner’s CV. The ATM role is an ideal gateway to management, and with the opportunities brought through change there are great prospects for ATMs that join us to progress whilst driving our improvement forward.

Apply now, and be part of our success.

ABOUT THE JOB

Assistant Team Managers (ATMs) play a vital role in supporting our Newham Together vision by ensuring that our social workers are supported and that high quality practice is delivered to children and families. ATMs are expected to show strong but compassionate leadership and create a secure team environment of open discussion/challenge whilst allowing systemic practice to flourish.

ATMs in Safeguarding and Intervention take on direct line management of social workers and family support workers. ATMs at Newham are not case holding – so you can concentrate solely on management duties. ATMs are an active member of the DCYPS management team, attending management meetings and helping to direct the way in which we achieve our service plans and priorities. ATMs consistently use the Newham practice model when assessing need and supporting the delivery of interventions, encouraging a respectful, collaborative and professional manner with colleagues, children and families.

ABOUT YOU

‘People at the heart of everything we do’

We're looking for resilient, experienced qualified social work practitioners who have experience of direct leadership or can demonstrate that they are ready for it. You are a confident systemic practitioner who is passionate about improving children and young people’s lives, and you pride yourself on supporting and developing people and practice.

Our ideal candidate will have experience working with children with disabilities and their families, and/or within a CWD focused social work team – but we may consider applications from experienced applicants who have worked in social work teams outside of this particular focus. Regardless of background, you will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of the issues affecting families and children with disabilities at interview and how working within the DCYPS/CwD team differs from other disciplines of children’s social work. You may be a senior social worker who is ready to take the next step in their career.

You have experience and an understanding of working within a diverse, urban community; and share our ambition and energy in embracing new ways of working. You are a positive individual with a mature approach and are conscious of the importance of professional development for yourself and your team. You are always open to helping others.

You are a qualified social worker and registered with Social Work England.
