Employed by the London Borough of Camden the Social Value Manger will be based in North London Waste Authority (NLWA), serving Camden and six other north London boroughs.
About the role
This newly created role will be the lead on delivery of social value in the Authority, working with the project team on the North London Heat and Power Project. Through this nationally significant infrastructure project, the Authority is creating new apprenticeships, and connecting young people locally with the construction and waste industries by engagement with schools and through onsite skills training placements.
NLWA aim to maximise the social and economic benefits of the project to the local community. The Authority already have a positive record of working with contractors onsite to provide apprenticeships and training placements. Now that the contract is in place for construction of the new Energy Recovery Facility, the largest contract in the project, this role will be instrumental in further developing this work and lead in pushing the boundaries of social value commitments for the project alongside the new contractor. Exploring strategies and opportunities to enhance the contribution the project is making through specific projects in the community will be encouraged.
The role is supported by specialist advisers, AECOM, and will include managing their budget and ensuring that the strategic aims of NLWA are delivered. Key elements of the role include liaising with others, reporting on progress, identifying and communicating local opportunities, collaborative working with contractors on the project and a good understanding of the outcomes achieved.
You will have enthusiasm for delivering a workstream which aims to provide social value to the local area within which the North London Heat and Power Project sits, and for which NLWA is responsible. You will be able to communicate the aims and outcomes of the workstream to a wide variety of stakeholders and be passionate about realising life-changing opportunities for local people.
You will have a good knowledge of current thinking relating to equality, diversity and inclusion, and of groups which are active in overcoming social disadvantage. You will have demonstrable experience in identifying social value targets and designing and managing monitoring and reporting systems.
Your understanding of the potential socio-economic impacts of a construction project will help the progress of this work for the benefit of NLWA and the local population.

We manage about a quarter of all the rubbish and recycling in London and run programmes to help residents and businesses reduce their waste and recycle more.

North London Heat and Power Project is the Authority’s £1.2 billion project to provide new infrastructure on the Edmonton EcoPark, including a new Energy Recovery Facility. Our vision is to create a waste management facility in which local communities can take pride, that demonstrated value and is a model for public sector project delivery.

The post-holder will work for NLWA and be based at NLWA’s office in Tottenham Hale but be employed by London Borough of Camden through whom NLWA staff are employed. The North London Heat and Power Project is located at Edmonton EcoPark.
