Permanence Education Development Officer (Post Adoption)

Fixed term (1 year), part time (21.6 hours per week)

Salary: SO2 - £32,418 - £34,209

The advertised salary is for full time work, the salary for part time will be calculated on a pro-rata basis the part time salary is £19,450 to £20,525

The Children and Social Work Act 2017 has placed a statutory duty on Local Authorities to provide advice, guidance and support to all children subject to adoption, special guardianship or child arrangement orders living within their area.

The Virtual School for Looked After Children is seeking to appoint a Permanence Educational Development Officer to fulfil this duty to these children and their families. The post holder will develop and deliver support to this group and will work with schools within the Borough to assist them to comply with statutory and good practice guidelines.

Enfield is part of Adoption North London, a consortium also including Haringey, Barnet, Hackney, Islington and Camden. This innovative and well-regarded partnership already works together to plan and deliver support to adopters and special guardians across North London and this role will offer the post holder the opportunity to be involved in future regional developments

The successful candidate will be committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for children living with alternative permanent families. Experience of working with vulnerable children is essential as is an understanding of the statutory and best practice guidelines relating to the educational entitlement of children and families within this cohort.

The Virtual School is part of the multi-agency HEART service which also includes specialist CAMHS, nurses and a participation officer. The service is based at Triangle House in Palmers Green and benefits from being co-located with the looked after children’s social work services.
