A Great Opportunity......

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

A key requirement of this role is to provide pragmatic and enabling workplace health and safety advice in a large, complex organisation at all levels within the structure. This is a position which involves collaborative, solution focussed working with a range of internal stakeholders, external service providers and regulatory bodies.

You’ll be exposed to a variety of demands in a fast-paced, changing landscape. Reporting directly to the Corporate Health and Safety Manager, you’ll join a small team supporting managers and staff across the council in understanding their part in workplace health and safety. You’ll be someone who understands the value of teamwork, who can work autonomously and who is highly adaptable to change.

Key areas of work are presently lone worker risk, policy, guidance, systems and training development. Coupled with providing general advice and support in a local authority setting, together with administration and attendance at departmental management meetings in your own right, you’ll utilise your experience and people-skills to best advantage in developing the safety culture.

The Person

With an open mind to innovation and change, you’ll be as comfortable engaging with directors and heads of service as you are with your closest colleague.

Responding to operational needs and keeping to timescales, being well-organised and able to prioritise, successfully managing conflicting demands and expectations of our internal clients are important requirements of the role.

You’ll hold a first degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline with experience, or NEBOSH diploma or certificate, or NCRQ diploma or certificate in applied health and safety, or equivalent level qualification.

You'll have CMIOSH level membership or be GradIOSH working towards chartered membership (note – you may be required to evidence CPD and IPD activity for GradIOSH), or hold equivalent professional memberships in IIRSM. Equivalent membership of IWFM together with relevant health and safety experience may also be considered.

Closing date:  23 December  2021 23:00
