Specialist Advisory Teacher – Qualified Teacher of Visually Impaired (LAS)

Salary: Main scale / UPS (basic) + TLR 2B max + SEN max (for those holding the mandatory QTVI qualification). Inner London Allowance pay rates apply.
Location: Tower Hamlets Sensory Support Service, 229 Bethnal Green Road, London E2 6AB
Hours per week: 32.5 term time
Type of Contract: Permanent

The team for visual impairment consists of Qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (QTVI) and support assistant posts including our Braille Instructor and Habilitation Officer. The team works with children, their families, early year’s settings, schools (mainstream and special) and college. The team are part of the wider Sensory Support Service which Ofted/CQC (Local Area Inspection July 2021) described as a service that is highly regarded and valued by parents and education providers.
We work in close partnership with other specialist teams in the borough and with our partners in the health service. The VI team provides advice and support to visually impaired children and young people aged 0 – 25 to promote their inclusion, empowerment, progress and raising of attainment.
One of QTVIs in the team has secured a promotional post and will be leaving us at Christmas. We are keen to recruit to the vacancy that has been created, and ideally we would like to see an anticipated start date of January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
We are looking for a skilled and experienced QTVI who is familiar with working in a diverse multi-cultural environment. The ideal candidate would have experience of work across a diverse age range, including young babies and pre-school children. You may have a wider knowledge of special educational needs and will show a commitment to supporting successful inclusion. You will also appreciate the importance of teamwork within a peripatetic service and be able to show evidence of supporting colleagues.
This is a peripatetic role. You will be expected to work in a variety of different locations across the borough. A travel allowance or essential car user allowance is attached to this post.
