Job introduction

This is an exciting opportunity to join ru-ok?, Brighton & Hove's Under 18s Substance Use & Sexual Health Service, within our city’s vibrant Adolescent Service.

For an informal discussion, please contact Alex Cooter, Adolescent Health Service Manager on 07747807510.

Interviews are to be held 10th Dec.

About the role

As part of the Families, Children & Learning directorate, you will take a relationship based and whole family approach to the work, whilst respecting service-user confidentiality.  You will work closely with partner agencies, most notably social work, well-being services and schools, to identify and meet children & young people's needs. Our service works alongside other disciplines, including youth offending, family therapy and social work teams. We take a creative and innovative approach in responding to young people's needs, focussing on the effectiveness of trusting relationships, particularly with those young people with experience of trauma and attachment difficulties. This can require workers to utilise their skills and knowledge whilst undertaking tasks which may sit outside traditional specialist roles.  You will play a role in a "Team Around the Worker" model, which would involve you receiving or offering specialist support and guidance within complex helping networks.

The post holder will provide treatment services to young people experiencing problems with their use of substances.  Much of this work takes place within local schools, other community settings or the young people’s homes.   You will be expected to attend a range of statutory meetings as part of your work with those young people involved in a professional network.   You will also be expected to work closely with parents and carers, wherever possible.  You will deliver training across the city and within the service and will have access to the council's comprehensive learning and development offer.

Our service is committed to ensuring equality of provision and we are proud to work within Brighton & Hove, which has pledged to be an anti-racist council. Our team is fully committed to playing its part in dismantling racist structures and challenging racial inequality and all forms of discrimination.

You will have a relevant professional qualification and experience of addressing problematic substance use within evidence-based structured interventions.

You will have had substantial experience of working with adolescents, including experience and knowledge of risk assessment, safeguarding procedures and child development.   For full details of essential criteria, please see attached job description and person specification.

At Brighton & Hove City Council we offer staff a range of benefits. If you choose to work for us, in return we can offer you:

A competitive salary
Career average pension scheme
Generous holiday (23 days rising to 25 days after 5 years)
An opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills
Staff discounts
A range of other staff benefits
