Job Description

ABOUT US

There has never been a more exciting time to practice, develop, and grow as an Educational Psychologist at Newham.

Children and young people are at the heart of the council’s corporate priorities. Newham is the only borough in the country with its own Children’s Commissioner, while our new independently-chaired SEND Commission will help inform our aspirations by exploring in depth what inclusion means for our schools and our children and young people. Next year will also see the opening of a new specialist school in Newham. We are investing in our people, and are currently reviewing our career pathway and development offer for our EPs.

Our vision is for Newham to be a place where every child and young person enjoys the best possible opportunities in life – through outstanding education; first-rate youth services; exceptional family support, and social care services that ensure no child is left behind.

If you share our commitment to supporting children and young people’s aspirations, celebrating their achievements and guaranteeing children with SEND get the education, encouragement and support they deserve, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply now, and be part of our success.

ABOUT THE JOB

Educational Psychologists at Newham will deliver evidence-based, high quality psychological services to children, young people and families. You will provide targeted early intervention services and ensure they are delivered to the highest standards. You will also work with schools and early years settings to ensure that programmes for children and families have the maximum impact. You will share our commitment to integrated working, delivering child and young person focused services and constant improvement.

The Educational Psychology Service provides the statutory work in support of EHC plans and also offers a traded service to pre-school settings, schools and colleges. There are opportunities within this role to further develop the contribution that EPs makes to our children and young people, schools and settings. A high priority is given to induction, supervision, reflective practice and continuous professional development and to maintaining a high level of professional skill.

Opportunities exist to work with the child Development Service, the local and other universities, our specialist settings and our mental health and wellbeing partners.
