Assistant Lawyer/Lawyer (Property)

ABOUT THE JOB
This is an exciting opportunity that will be focusing on providing forward thinking, customer focused and professional legal advice in relation to land and property.
Key requirements of this post will be to provide legal advice and services to the Council’s Members, officers and external bodies, drafting contracts and legal agreements and undertaking negotiations and advocacy in the Courts, Tribunals and at statutory appeals and inquiries. Draft, prepare and comment on committee reports, policy documents and other briefing papers for Senior Officers. This will include the provision of wider local government and regulatory, procedural and administrative law advice for the Council and its services.
The role is full-time at 36 hours a week. Additionally, Wirral strongly supports a flexible and agile working approach.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for people with strong organisational skills and a passion and drive to deliver results consistently and provide high standards of customer care.
Ideally candidates will have some experience of providing legal advice relating to land and property matters in a local authority context. However, previous local authority experience is not essential, but enthusiasm and commitment to this area of law is vital. Training and support will be provided to the right candidate to develop knowledge and proficiency. You will have good communication and IT skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy team of solicitors and legal assistants. You will be confident in managing a full caseload of land and property transactions and advice matters. You will have the ability to work well under pressure and to manage a busy workload to tight deadlines.
The successful candidate will work on their own initiative, be solution focused, pragmatic and escalate matters where appropriate. They will further show tact, diplomacy, empathy and politically awareness with resilience, especially in dealing with competing and demanding pressures. Ultimately, you will demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm to making a difference for residents, you will role model our values and will be an ambassador for the Council.
Please note, that in order to be considered for this position, you must be a qualified and practising barrister, solicitor, legal executive (Fellow) or equivalent (subject to or awaiting QLTS).
