The Role
The last 18 months have been a challenging for us all, and like many other organisations we are seeking ways to look after our resources and maximise income generation. An exciting and unique opportunity has become available within the Commercial Services Team, as we seek to appoint the right individual to be at the heart of our cultural change programme. We are looking to appoint a Commercial Development Manager who will lead the Team’s cultural change programme. We have recognised that the only way we can achieve our commercial ambitions is by working with staff at all levels to build, promote and embed a commercial culture at the heart of the organisation.
Specifically, we need an individual who can work collaboratively across the Council with Directors, Managers and officers to drive forward a commercial culture where officers are actively involved in shaping excellent customer focussed income generating services. You will be required to assess the commercial maturity of the organisation, making recommendations to the Council’s Commercial Board and drive forward lasting change. You will need to support your colleagues to develop their skills so that they can identify a pipeline of new commercial opportunities. You will also need to work closely with the Council’s Learning & Development Team to ensure the commercial programme compliments the wider corporate cultural change programme focussed on the Council’s values and behaviours.
You
We need a genuine people person, an individual that can work with people at all levels of seniority to understand their barriers to working commercially. You will need to use all your communication and persuasion skills to change mindsets and ensure that thinking commercially is second nature to services across the Council.
You will possess excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills to ensure that you can get our message across to wide audience via a range of methods. Using your skills and experience working within a commercial role or commercial organisation will help you to be successful. A demonstrable ability to change the culture of a large organisation either individually or as part of a team will be essential.
