Role Purpose

The purpose of the role is to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Plan Making team in its role of creating a positive policy framework to manage and shape growth in the borough. This includes leading on and contributing to the preparation and monitoring of the new Local Plan and other planning policy documents, including supplementary planning guidance, Article 4 directions, and neighbourhood planning; while providing quality advice on planning policy matters to internal and external stakeholders. In this role, you will play a key role in supporting the embedding of the new Local Plan with internal colleagues and external stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for this role will include providing support on allocated planning work with an appropriate caseload, providing advice and support in relation to planning applications as part of the application process and supporting negotiations on planning work as appropriate.

Officers will also provide support to all planning service public consultation exercises including the preparation of all materials and other documentation.

You will be required to communicate effectively and confidently with internal and external colleagues and engage with senior officers of the Council and Members, and Tower Hamlets communities, as and when required.

Requirements

This post will require a Royal Town Planning Institute accredited post-graduate planning degree or an equivalent accredited planning qualification.

The Council is looking to fill this position permanently with the successful candidate needing to demonstrate experience in spatial planning and policy making, and a proven ability to support the delivery of plan-making documents and initiatives and establishing strong partnerships within and outside the Council. You will need to be ambitious, motivated and willing to learn.
