The role involves providing high quality advice and signposting to support clients on complex financial health and social issues.

About the role

The Temporary Accommodation Service work throughout Brighton and Hove and East and West Sussex to manage accommodation and support tenants in accommodation.

We are recruiting for a scheme based Welfare Officer to join an existing team in our new housing scheme. Your primary function is to assist people living in short- term emergency accommodation to live independently and manage their temporary accommodation and provide support with their onward move into settled homes. The job entails proactively engaging with homeless households in Hartington Road, carrying out welfare checks and referring for additional support where required.

Direct experience of working in housing is not necessary, far more important is a caring attitude and empathy towards people who have found themselves in insecure housing situations.

You should have understanding and knowledge of the issues and barriers facing homeless people in Brighton and Hove and of welfare rights and benefits.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and upload a supporting statement. Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application as it will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Supporting statement guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
