Newham Council provides services to residents, business and visitors of this young and vibrant borough in East London. The Council’s Public Realm division provides most of the frontline services that all residents use, including waste collection, street cleansing, parks and open spaces, and customer services. The Public Realm Engagement Team is part of this division, working closely with colleagues in all directorates.
The Public Realm Engagement Team plays a key role in helping the council to engage with its residents, providing information and advice on services, promoting behaviour change and building community resilience. The team supports Newham’s vision to be the best for all residents, raising residents’ awareness of how to access and use the council’s waste collection and street cleansing services, promoting recycling, parks and open spaces.
The team primarily undertake door knocking campaigns around the borough, but also attend community events, take part in roadshows, visit schools and parks and provide support to other council departments that are engaging with the community.
As a Public Realm Engagement Assistant you will be an ambassador for the council, professional and positive. You will be enthusiastic, confident, energetic, outgoing and a good team player. You will be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from many different backgrounds. As this role will be out and about for much of the time, you will be physically fit and happy to work in all weathers.
The team is based at the council’s Central Depot in East Ham, but staff work around the borough. Some weekend and evening work will be required.
