About us

Hillingdon Council: Putting our residents first.

Hillingdon Council are building on the best practice learnt through the implementation of the SEND Reforms to make some exciting changes to our SEND Services. We are committed to delivering the best service possible to children and young people with SEND and their families and want to work closely with our educational settings to ensure special educational needs and disabilities are well supported.

About the role

In order to progress to a more holistic and integrated way of working, we have established a multi-disciplinary, 0-25years, SEND Advisory Service. We are seeking to appoint an experienced ASD Advisor to form part of this dynamic team. The SEND Advisory Team merges several existing, outstanding professionals, including SEND Key Workers, Language and ASD specialists and the Multi-Sensory team.

This role has an exciting and varied remit including delivering in-house and cross-borough training; providing support and guidance to a variety of professionals and working on innovative and exciting projects.

You will work closely with educational settings, across Hillingdon, to provide advice and guidance on how to maximise inclusion and independence for children and young people with SEND, particularly those with ASD at SEN Support. In addition to our own multi-disciplinary team, you will work in close partnership with key agencies such as Health, Education, Schools and Families to deliver early intervention programmes and deliver statutory duties across settings.

About you

We are looking for a dedicated individual with experience of providing specialist support to professionals who are working with students with ASD, aged 0-25. Cross-phase experience is essential for this role. You will need to be proficient at delivering training; have a broad understanding of the National Curriculum and have a good knowledge of the application of current legislation in relation to ASD and SEND. Knowledge of the SCERTS framework and various, evidence-based interventions and their effectiveness would be advantageous.

You will have a clear appreciation of the importance of person-centred support and have a good understanding of the graduated approach. You will need an acute awareness of the importance of capturing and valuing the views of the individual person and their families.
