HeadStart Newham is a mental health service improving lives for young people and families in Newham. The service is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and delivered in partnership with The London Borough of Newham.

ABOUT THE JOB

 This is an exciting time to join Newham as our sustainability journey is beginning to take shape. You will be instrumental in the scaling up of the pilot phase of the program and delivering a borough wide emotional resilience approach across Newham. This multi-faceted role will involve innovating systems and processes in line with service needs and support the establishment of a HeadStart team hub in a local community setting.

Reporting to the Mental Wellbeing and Resilience Managers and working closely with the delivery team, the purpose of the Business Support officer role is to provide a professional Business Support Service working with other business support colleagues and service users across the Brighter Futures directorate. This includes:

  • To support the Council’s vision and by providing a consistently high quality, cost effective and timely business support service; ensuring service adherence to key policy.
  • To ensure that a professional administration function is delivered to a high level of accuracy and to corporate standards.
  • To ensure that continuous cover and support is provided as per service requirements.

 ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an agile worker in all respects; you will be able to prioritise project work, administrative support and responding to service user and stakeholder needs. You will have excellent communication and ICT skills and the ability to creatively problem solve and capture feedback. A knowledge of current challenges faced by young people Local Authorities and in particular Children’s services is desirable as is experience of growing a social media/virtual community of young people.

You will have an eye for detail and an innovate approach to streamlining systems and supporting the team to utilize new and existing systems. You have a ‘can-do’ attitude and a service user centred approach to all communications; adapting your approach and utilizing technology to increase accessibility. You will have strong self-management skills but also work with others to ensure high quality outputs and seek critical feedback. You hold co-production and inclusion at the heart of your professional conduct and are confident at translating this into your daily practice.

You will champion HeadStart and seek out platforms and mechanisms to share information about what is happening externally and internally. We are a team here at Headstart and are diligent about creating a supportive and collaborative work environment. You will be able to work collaboratively with staff across the service and build relationships with a wide range of partners externally in addition to within the organisation. You will have a thirst for knowledge and have entrepreneurial and networking skills, which you utilize to meet business needs.

Job Context

  1.  Full-time 36 hours
  2. The post holder reports to the Mental Wellbeing and Resilience Managers
  3. The post holder will be required to prioritise taking annual leave during school holidays and to work to a flexible schedule involving some extended afternoons, evenings and, occasional weekends.
  4. The post holder in the current climate will be working in accordance with government and LBN guidance in relation to working from home but ordinarily the role will require travel to a number of sites and community settings across the borough.
