This is a rapidly evolving area of Newham, Beckton was developed in the 1980’s whilst the Royal Docks celebrates their 100th year in 2021. This is an exciting time to join our team with a re furbished library in North Woolwich and the opportunity to support our residents as they begin to normal life after Covid.

ABOUT THE JOB

Community Neighbourhood Assistants are the ‘face’ of Community Neighbourhoods. They are the people within libraries, community centres and at Community Neighbourhood events who are engaging with residents and ensuring the smooth running of the facilities on a day-to-day basis.

Much of the work will require you to undertake library duties such as stock tidying, floor walking and assisting residents with self-service and online systems, ensuring digital inclusion. The post also covers community centres and events. You will also have the opportunity to engage with residents in activities from storytelling with under-fives to supporting community assemblies.

You need to relish working with the public, enjoy interacting with residents, deal with queries and problems professionally and with patience. You must also be able to demonstrate you can work in an organised way, with good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. You don’t have to be a great reader but a respect of books and reading is valuable in this role. We are also keen to interview people who are interested in the arts and creativity to expand the use of our community gallery.

A high degree of flexibility will be required as you may be asked to work evenings and weekends in a variety of locations as and when required. If you are motivated, flexible, and would like the opportunity to work across a range of functions in Community Neighbourhoods we want to hear from you.
