Newham is a vibrant, diverse and aspirational place, one of the youngest boroughs in London.

We have set a radical new vision to increase the wealth of the local community, creating a future where Newham is recognised as a place of health, wellbeing and happiness. To deliver our vision, we are changing how we work.

Working within our programme delivery team as part of our newly created Change and Insight Directorate, you will work closely with colleagues and residents to lead strategic change projects. The team establishes centres of excellence in:

  • Digital & Data
  • Service Design & Insight
  • Business Intelligence & Performance

You’ll be joining at a critical time for Newham, gaining the opportunity to shape how the organisation approaches change; helping us to work in a more agile and people focussed way.

The team is focussed on building an innovative and cutting-edge service; that tackles substantial challenges collaboratively as part of multi-disciplinary teams.

About the Role

We are currently looking for two experienced change leads to join us as Project Managers, who will lead exciting, complex projects of transformation and change across the organisation.

You will be delivering projects within one of the following strategic portfolios

  • People: Adults services, Children and Young people services, Early Help & Brighter Futures, Health and Leisure.
  • Place: Housing, Economy, Environment and Planning services.

We are keen to hear from candidates with experience of projects within these service areas, although previous experience in local government is not a necessary requirement; as long as you have an aptitude to understand and digest complex challenges and work collaboratively to create solutions.

Ultimately the role takes responsibility for directly managing projects within the delivery function, working closely with our Assistant Directors of Improvement and Change, and Programme Managers; as well as drawing on resources from a wide-range of multi-disciplinary teams. Our projects are centred on delivering better outcomes to Newham’s residents and working to ensure the financial sustainability of the council through increasing income and delivering savings.

About You

With a key focus on project management, you will have a proven track record in leading major change projects that change how organisation’s fundamentally work in accordance with best-practice methodologies - successfully delivering complex projects or programmes within a similar environment.

You will have an interest in service design approaches that put people at the heart of how we design create and redesign services.

We are looking for team members who are:

  • Great self-starters and highly motivated
  • Collaborative, working well all types of people
  • Experienced in using both agile and Prince2 methodologies
  • Experienced in delivering projects within complex organisations
  • Able to work with senior stakeholders
  • Quick to digest and understand complex information
  • Focussed on delivering real outcomes to Newham’s residents
  • Keen to listen to and understand diverse voices and perspectives
  • Committed to working in a respectful and tolerant way

You will also have proven experience in delivering the positive impact of change initiatives, being able to evidence the use of qualitative and qualitative data to measure the performance of services, devising appropriate development strategies either in a public or private sector environment.

If you would like an informal conversation about the role(s) please contact Ryan Brock on ryan.brock@newham.gov.uk.
