About the Job

Grade: PO4   £40,869 - £43,860 pa

The purpose of this role is to achieve improvements in dealing with combustible cladding and other fire safety issues on high rise blocks in the private sector within Newham; primarily via advice, negotiation and enforcement. To carry out monitoring, reporting, inspecting and enforcement activity where required, in order to achieve team objectives and to deliver private sector housing outputs for the Private Sector Housing Standards Service as directed.  You will provide a framework for interventions aimed at dealing with fire safety issues and the impact on health.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the current local and national policy environment, future targets and goals relating to cladding on high rise buildings and fire safety, including specific knowledge of MHCLG’s Building Safety Programme.
  • Knowledge and application of current legislation, including HHSRS, and best practice relating to cladding on high rise buildings and fire safety.
  • A good understanding in identifying fire safety and cladding deficiencies, including analysis and interpretation of fire safety risk assessments and external wall surveys, and the application of appropriate remedial actions. 
  • Degree level qualification in fire safety, NEBOSH Fire Certificate or IFE Level 3 or Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety or a related subject and/or demonstrable relevant experience.  (Essential)
  • Membership of a recognised professional body such as IFE, IFSM, IFPO or similar with demonstrable evidence of Continuing Professional Development. (Desirable)
  • Experience of leading on and providing advice on complex cases.
  • Experience of giving detailed advice on the rights and responsibilities of owners and occupiers.
  • Ability and experience of preparing, briefings and presentations for the Mayor, Members, senior managers and to national public forums.
