An Excellent Opportunity...

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

We are looking for a self-motivated and confident Tree Officer to join our Placemaking team to provide a high-quality tree service to our residents, managing trees across the borough responsibly, effectively, promoting their importance, and encouraging good practice. We want to hear from people passionate about trees and the role they play in delivering successful places.

You will provide professional and technical advice on all planning matters relating to trees, including pre-application advice, the processing of tree work applications and making and reviewing tree preservation orders.  You will also work collaboratively with other service areas helping to deliver key themes of the Council’s Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy.

Brent Council is an active member of the London Tree Officers Association (LTOA) and we encourage participation in the various working parties that make the LTOA the ‘Go-to’ organisation for all those involved in the care and establishment of trees.

This permanent post with flexible working arrangements is based at Brent Council’s award winning offices which are within walking distance of Wembley Park station.

The Person

You will have:

  •  a good working knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulations relating to trees in the planning context
  • good communication, people skills and be able to manage your own workload efficiently
  • a positive and proactive approach to working on your own or as part of a team
  • the ability to build relationships internally as well as with members, residents and community groups
  • a postgraduate degree in a subject closely related to arboriculture or landscape architecture and be eligible for membership of the Arboriculture Association.

Closing Date: 23 September 2021 (23:00)
