Principal Planning Officer

We are one of the busiest unitary planning services and this role will be central to dealing with a range of exciting major regeneration projects in the city; help to deliver the aims of the ambitious City Plan; and to assist in recovery of the city’s economy following Covid 19 lockdown.
We are seeking an experienced, qualified Town Planner, to deal with a range of major and strategic planning applications across the city. You will have a range of projects to deal with and provide pre-application advice and help with delivery at implementation stage. You will be based in one of the two Development Management Area Teams reporting to the Planning Manager and supporting colleagues with mixed experience as a member of the team.

There is an ambitious pipeline of development and regeneration projects coming forward in the city including at Brighton Marina, Brighton General Hospital, King Alfred Sports Centre and the Brighton Centre. You will be proactively managing a mixed caseload of major and strategic planning applications along with pre-application advice and supporting post decision implementation. We will be looking put planning performance agreements in place with applicants and are developing a project management approach to all majors. You will be based in one of the two Development Management Area Teams reporting to the Planning Manager and supporting colleagues with mixed experience as a member of the team.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, positive and pro-active town planner with a track record in delivering major regeneration schemes. You will be able to do work largely at home whilst, as part of the covid 19 recovery, you will be able to work at our base in Hove Town Hall on agreed days. Right now, we are mainly working from home and will provide flexible working arrangements to suit your circumstances on an ongoing basis.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
