MEDIA RELATIONS OFFICER, Grade 11 (£39,564 - £41,586)

Are you an experienced, resilient and organised press officer looking for a job where no two days are the same? Would you like the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-profile role where you can really make a difference? If so we'd love to hear from you!

We need an enthusiastic professional with tons of energy to join our busy team where you will lead on media handling (proactive and reactive), deal with regional and national journalists daily and engage with the public via our digital channels. This is a high-profile role and is an opportunity to be part of one of the most exciting projects in local government today.

The work is fast-paced; the challenges are real, but so are the opportunities and our determination to succeed. We need people who are experienced, highly-skilled, hard-working, creative - and yes you do need to be resilient! But most importantly, you need to really care about our borough – you’ll be joining a passionate and committed team who certainly do.

We are looking for someone who understands the media and how to tailor messages for a variety of channels, with the experience and confidence to advice senior officers, members and staff on the best ways to get their messages across. Confident and adept in dealing with breaking news stories across different channels you will need the ability to think on your feet, prioritise and make informed decisions drawing on your communications experience.

You will help deliver proactive media relations activities, plan and secure coverage on a national scale, and you will participate in a mandatory outofhours duty rota which means working some weekends and evenings. The role requires a nationally-recognised communications qualification (or equivalent) with recent relevant experience. Experience of working with local and national media is essential as well as excellent writing skills. Media law experience is desirable.

*Please note these are full-time permanent posts but are we would also consider short-term secondments for up to six months for the right candidate.
