Newham’s Learning Disability & Autism team is a unique opportunity for a Senior Social Worker to make real and lasting change for those we support.

About you

As the Autism Lead you will be key in leading the local authorities offer to autistic people. You will hold a manageable case load where you will implement short – long term interventions, utilising a strengths based approach to ensure that independence and wellbeing is promoted in the community. You will routinely undertake social care assessments, reviews and support planning and will also be required to complete mental capacity assessments, Continuing Health Care decision support tools, Court of Protection work and safeguarding enquiries when necessary. You will offer line management and lead on case discussion as required to support other practitioners in supporting autistic adults. 

We're looking for a resilient, experienced Senior Social Worker who is passionate about improving the lives of Autistic people. You are full of energy and enthusiasm, taking a creative but pragmatic approach to practice to help create stability, or change where it’s needed, to achieve positive outcomes for Autistic adults and their carers. You will be passionate about the quality of life for these adults and their families, with a keen interest in promoting independence and wellbeing, focusing on people’s strengths.

You will have previous experience and an understanding of working within a diverse, urban community, and share our ambition and energy in embracing new ways of working. You have high working standards and are conscious of your own professional development and that of those around you. You are always open to learning and to helping others learn so that Autistic

You will have undertaken statutory work as per the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005, and have awareness of other pertinent legislation (Mental Health Act 1983 / 2007, Human Rights Act 1998, Equalities Act 2010). Experience of undertaking Court of Protection work, or an eagerness to quickly develop skills in this area, is essential. You will appreciate that people’s complex needs are not always best funded by Adult Social Care, and will have an understanding of applying for funding through other means.

You will have previous experience and an understanding of working within a diverse, urban community and share our ambition and energy in embracing new ways of working. You are always open to learning, and helping others to learn, so that the people you support benefit from the very best practice.
