Waltham Forest was winner of the 2019 Municipal Journal Local Authority of the Year, and host of the Mayor of London’s first ever Borough of Culture, and if you have your finger on the pulse of local authorities you will know that we are about to welcome a new Leader in the borough.

We are looking for a capable, enthusiastic and experienced individual to support the work of the Labour Group within Waltham Forest, to assist Group Officers in discharging their functions as Members of the Council in respect of Group business, and plan and manage the heavy workload of the Group Office.

You will need to build and manage relationships and under the direction of Group Officers, proactively manage, plan and prioritise the work of the Group Office, noting the pressures of the unprecedented time we are in as well as supporting the group in this vital year as we head towards Local Elections in 2022.  You will be responsible for research, analysis, briefings and providing a comprehensive media and social media service to the group as well as manifesto development.

You will also assist in the preparation of speeches, amendments and questions for Council meetings, and working across other local authorities, liaising with parliamentary staff, and national and regional local government bodies.

Good interpersonal and IT skills are essential, as is discretion in handling confidential matters, along with an ability to multi-task and deal with rapidly changing priorities.  This role is certainly fast-paced and challenging, and you will need to be a hard-working and reliable team player who can handle a pressurised environment in a composed and responsive manner.
