About this job

We are seeking to recruit an Accountant to a new position within the Service Finance Team.  You will report to the Finance Business Partner for My Place and Housing Revenue Account (HRA).

The My Place directorate is responsible for the management of the Council's property, assets and infrastructure, including its housing stock, highways, commercial properties and public realm services. The HRA is a ring-fenced account which records expenditure and income relating to approximately 17,000 council houses and the provision of services to tenants.

Responsibilities will include:

Providing timely and accurate financial information and advice to Budget Managers, Heads of Service and Directors;

Supporting efficient and effective budgeting, monitoring and closure of accounts throughout the financial cycle.

Undertaking regular financial system reconciliations.

Specific HRA duties such as reviewing service charges, working on the 30 year business plan, rent reconciliations and improving the processes between the financial system and the housing sub system (Capita Open Housing) in conjunction with the Finance Business Partner.

We are moving to a dispersed working model from June which will mean that the expectation is to work from home, with a requirement to come in as and when required. Therefore, the  primary work setting will be remote working.  Interviews will be held virtually for the successfully shortlisted candidates.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have proven experience of providing financial support in large complex organisations and be a Qualified Accounting Technician (AAT) or Part Qualified CCAB (or equivalent e.g. CGMA/CIMA) or have substantial accounting experience.

In addition to this, the successful candidate will need to be proficient in MS Excel, and have the ability to build strong relationships across the organisation and with external partners.  Good communication and organisational skills are essential.
