Foster Carer
Becoming a Foster Carer is so much more than just a job. It’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact on a child’s life and give them a stable environment to develop and thrive.
COVID-19 has meant that there are more vulnerable children and young people in need of care than ever. They need inspiring people to care for them in when they are unable to stay with their own families.
No matter what your background, we want to hear from you. Whether you’re an individual carer or a family, you have a spare room or not, you could still be a fantastic Foster Carer and make a big impact.
Why Fostering
Fostering is quite unlike any other career. You could be a full-time carer based at home or work another role alongside caring. You may be looking after a child long term or just for a weekend respite period.
The challenges are big but so are the rewards. You’ll need to support children and young people from all walks of life in dealing with a variety of complex needs. Under your care, these children can grow and, in a lot of cases, become an extension of your family.
Why Enfield?
As a Foster Carer with Enfield Council, you can rest assured that you won’t be alone. You’ll be supported every step of the way by our team of social workers and other members of the children’s service.
You’ll also have access to the large network of foster carers throughout the council who can help you through your own journey. You won’t just have a child joining your family, you’ll be joining our foster care family.
There is also scope for further career development into a wide range of areas related to children’s services and fostering. Once you’re comfortable, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in recruitment events and training to further your own development and help others like you get into fostering.
About You
Being a Foster carer isn’t always easy. Some children will have various learning or behavioural difficulties and even the best-behaved children will have bad days. Therefore, being resilient and strong-minded is crucial in this role.
The main necessary requirements are being in good health, over 21 and a UK resident with no criminal convictions against children or vulnerable adults.
Ultimately, you’ll need to display a real passion for helping children of all backgrounds, bringing your enthusiasm to ensure they have the best possible experience.
