About the role

We are currently seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Welfare Rights Adviser to provide specialist welfare rights advice, information and casework management service to Camden residents. You will be required to interview clients in their own homes, at the office or other community buildings and via telephone and video calls as required.

Within this role the successful post holder will increase benefit income for clients by helping them to claim social security benefits, universal credits, grants and provide representation at tribunal.  The successful post holder will also support colleagues across the council through coaching, training and providing advice; and help us award crisis grants to residents.

You will need to have an awareness of the needs of socially excluded groups and people living on low income, an awareness and knowledge of the principles of record keeping in the context of benefits advice and ability to provide training. This post can be challenging and varied but very rewarding, knowing that you can make a difference to vulnerable members of our community and in supporting colleagues.

 

About you

Experience of providing welfare rights advice and assisting in helping clients claim the full  range of benefits and carry out benefit checks is essential to the role.  You will have good knowledge and understanding of social security law and other related legislation and have the ability to transfer skills and represent clients in a tribunal setting, paper or oral hearing

Received training from a known Independent Welfare rights trainer or welfare rights organisation and or gained expert knowledge from developing welfare rights skills from a previous role.

You will require excellent communication skills at all levels including IT as you will work with a range of computer packages, demonstrate excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently, prioritise work as appropriate and manage a busy and demanding workload.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
