About Us

This post is employed by the London Borough of Newham, who was the first London borough to offer a fully integrated 0-19 health and social care service as we have assumed direct responsibility for providing School Nursing services, Health Visiting and Family Nurse Partnership in 2017. Therefore our Brighter Futures directorate will be delivering the 0-19 Healthy Child programme through the Children’s Health Service.

The Children's Health 0-19 Service had their recent CQC inspection in 2019 and rated Good in all areas.

About the Job

 The post holder will be required to;

  • Support parents with baby feeding questions and concerns; providing support and evidence based information.
  • Maintain excellent listening and communication skills using a strengths based approach, supporting parent’s own learning and self-efficacy.
  • Liaise with the Infant Feeding Coordinator and duty Health Visitor where there are concerns outside of remit of Helpline, including updating the duty Health Visitor on Mondays of any concerns identified during the weekend calls.
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with all members of the multidisciplinary team and with outside agencies involved in provision or planning of care.
  • Document support provided and submitting securely via LBN email at the end of each shift.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of clients/families from diverse ethnic/family groups.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of trust guidelines and policies appropriate to the role and demonstrate evidence-based practiced based on these and Baby Friendly standards.

About You

The successful candidate will have/must be:

  • Breastfeeding Peer Supporter trained by either ABM, BfN, LLL or NCT with supervision or reflective support up to date
  • In depth knowledge of lactation, the value of breastfeeding, and common issues including awareness of how to support mothers to establish and maintain breastfeeding.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to use IT and common software packages e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to be professional, emotionally intelligent and able to communicate effectively in diverse situations.
