The role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health Improvement Officer to join our dynamic Health and Wellbeing Team working to keep children, young people and families healthy. The role of the Health Improvement Officer is to, deliver, evaluate and input into the ongoing development of a range of practical and educational food and physical activity based initiatives to parents and carers, children and their families to encourage healthy lifestyle choices. This will include direct delivery of practical sessions and workshops to help improve nutrition knowledge and cooking skills, overcome barriers to healthy eating and being active and raise awareness of other public health initiatives and services.  A significant part of the work will be with parents and carers with children age 2-11 years old and with children under 6 months.

Please note the post will cover a total of 36 hours per week.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

To be considered for this fantastic opportunity, the successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent qualification in nutrition, health promotion or public health. You’ll have exceptional communication skills, joined with specialist knowledge of nutrition for early years and primary-aged children.  In particular, you should be able to demonstrate relevant experience related to working on food and physical activity issues with individuals and groups in schools and in the community. Also, it is essential that you have experience of delivering group educational sessions to a wide range of audiences including families.
