At the London Borough of Havering’s Children’s Service we pride ourselves on being an innovative organisation with a commitment to the needs of vulnerable children and young people in the borough.
The Children and Young Adults with Disabilities Service (CAD) is a singly managed Education and Social Care service. We work together to achieve positive outcomes and reducing risk of harm to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Occupational Therapists play a vital role in supporting children at home and in their place of learning. We require an Occupational Therapist with excellent assessment, support planning and communication skills who has an additional qualification in sensory processing/Integration. You will need to have a strong desire to work in cooperation with others in social care, education and health to bring about the most positive outcomes for children and young people with disabilities.
We offer you an opportunity to develop your professional skills and to be part of our Children and Young Adults with Disabilities Service. We will help you to seek ways to deliver support in the most effective way, putting the child and family at the centre of how you work. We firmly believe in investing in our staff.
We recognise as an OT dealing with sensory processing issues that clinical supervision will be bespoke.
You should have extensive knowledge of sensory processing and its impact in children and young people and be able to produce care plans with strategies to support these needs. You should be experienced in demonstrating strategies to teaching staff and parents so that support is consistent across settings. You should also be able to identify suitable equipment and resources to support the child/YP’s sensory needs. You will be required to provide reports for Annual review, EHCP assessments and Tribunal.
Along with a professional OT qualification, additional qualification in the area of sensory processing/integration, Post Graduate Certificate in Sensory Integration (or equivalent ICEASI standard) and HCPC registration, you will possess a firm knowledge of current policies and practice and the ability to apply these to the job for which you are applying.
