Sessional Youth Worker
Working to a remit set by either a Senior Youth Worker or the Detached Youth Service Manager, the post holder will be responsible for delivering Newham’s universal and targeted youth services, providing young people with practical support, mentoring, learning, information and guidance that equips them with the skills and capabilities they will require as they transition into adulthood.
You will be responsible for:
• Delivering innovative approaches to engaging young people in shaping and participating in the activities offered as part of the Youth Service Curriculum, and, in so doing, raising the overall level of participation in Youth Service activity to 20% of 9 – 19 year olds;
• Supporting the Senior Youth Worker and/or the Detached Senior Youth Worker in developing, delivering and reviewing of relevant elements of the youth offer (centre-based, outreach and/or detached), ensuring value for money and that Youth Services activity directly enhances the life chances of young people; and
• Alongside partners, delivering activities targeted at individuals / groups in need of particular support, including prioritising support for young people with multiple needs and facing barriers to participating in universal provision.
Newham’s Youth Service has excellent opportunities for people who have a successful track record and experience of working with young people. In addition to general youth work skills, we are particularly looking for sessional staff with additional skills in the following specialist areas:
- Music, dance, drama, art
- Work shop delivery
- Digital media
- Spoken word
- Information, advice, guidance and support
- Social enterprise
- Health and well being
Ideally you will have a youth work qualification either at level 2 or level 3 and/or be willing to develop your skills and gain qualifications.
