Children's Social Worker ASYE Programme 2021
£33,324 + £5,000 market supplement
12 month ASYE leading to Permanent SW role– Full time, flexible hours
Newham Dockside, E16 2QU
Deadline for applications: 07/03/2021 23:59
Newham Children’s Social Care is now open to applications for the second and third cohorts of its revitalised Assessed and Supported Year of Employment (ASYE) programme starting in May and September 2021.
Newham offers excellent opportunities for Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) to learn their profession. We are the UK’s most diverse local authority with vibrant communities of many nationalities, ethnicities, languages, faiths, and customs. We are looking for dedicated and ambitious social workers who are keen to make a difference.
We view the ASYE as an investment in the service we provide to our community. The Newham ASYE programme is a comprehensive introduction to the profession for NQSWs, with monthly dedicated training, on-the-job targeted learning and reflective space. The first half of the programme covers the Journey of the Child, with NQSWs given opportunities to gain insight into the impact of involvement on the lived experience of children and families. The second half includes a 5-day Systemic Practice course to introduce NQSWs to a practice framework that is restorative and relational in approach and uses systemic ideas. NQSWs are introduced to complex cases early, although only take on case responsibility for Child Protection cases when they are ready, and not until the final three months of the ASYE. Our goal is developing empathetic, knowledgeable practitioners, whose focus is achieving and maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our children in a timely way.
Participants will be supported by their line-manager assessors, mentors within their teams, our Family Therapist practitioners, the Workforce Development Service and Senior Leadership. Our emphasis is on learning and reflection so that NQSWs finish their ASYE experienced and confident in their role.
In Newham, the ASYE is the first step along a career progression pathway with routes to management, specialisms, family therapy, practice development and other roles. This includes a post-ASYE consolidation year, the Practice Educator award, further Systemic Practice training (potentially leading to a MSc in Family Therapy), and our in-house Practice Fundamentals programme run by our Principal Social Worker and Director of Clinical Practice. We also have significant internal training opportunities run by our own specialists and partner agencies.
