Do you have great customer service skills, proficiency using office IT and a real desire to develop a career in fundraising with one of the UK's leading charities? Then join Shelter as a Community & Events Assistant and you could soon be playing a vital support role at the heart of our fundraising team.

About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the Team
Our Community & Events Team sits within a wider department - the Income Generation directorate - which focuses on a variety of other types of fundraising. Welcoming, supportive and keen to meet you, we work hard but try and have a lot of fun too. We passionately believe in developing our people and there's room to progress within the team, as well as in the wider Income Generation directorate. This is the perfect opportunity to get into fundraising in a friendly environment where your line manager will be there to support you and encourage your personal development all the way.

About the Role
If you're looking to learn more about community and events and develop a career in fundraising, you're in the right place. This role will primarily work in our Challenge and Bespoke team, who deliver active fundraising events, but will also assist our Culture, Entertainment and Sports and Community Fundraising teams. And, whether you're providing vital administrative support or excellent supporter care, you'll have all the training, exposure and variety you need to grow into a confident and successful fundraiser.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

About you
To make this exciting opportunity yours, you'll need great customer service with an ability to communicate well with a range of people, time management and organisational skills. You'll also need a good eye for detail to make sure work is completed accurately. A proactive approach is important too ¿ a willingness to take the initiative and ask questions. You should also be at your happiest when you're busy enjoying the variety each day brings and have the adaptability to get stuck into different activities when needed. Above all, you must be flexible, positive, open-minded and willing to learn.

Location
This role is currently home-based due to COVID restrictions. You will be based at our Old Street office in London, once we are able to re-open.
