Head of Environmental Services – 12 Month Secondment / Fixed Term Opportunity

We are looking for an exceptional Head of Service for up to 12 months, reporting to the Director of Public Realm

You will be a self-motivated, enthusiastic professional with strong leadership skills and a keen interest in the Environment. You will need an Environmental related degree, membership of the Chartered Institution of Waste Management, and sound knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act and all current environmental legislation and government strategies.

This post holder is required to lead a small but very busy Environmental Services team responsible for the delivery of key environmental front line contracts in the borough. You will need sound knowledge and experience of procuring and delivering excellent services within a local authority responsible for environmental contracts in partnership with various commercial providers.

You will be the Councils technical lead in delivering the requirements of the new national resources and waste strategy to reduce the amount of waste not being recycled, and will be working with our waste collection contractor and our joint waste disposal partners to achieve this. You will therefore need to have experience of implementing major waste related projects, be capable of providing guidance and support in all environmental matters and be competent in finance management with a budget of around £30m

You will be a visionary and transformational leader with outstanding communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively to drive service change and develop partnerships.  You will bring demonstrable experience of Highways management. You will bring demonstrable experience of Highway services in a local authority context within an urban, multi-cultural environment.  A track record of developing impactful, sustained partnerships to deliver and effective and efficient Highways Asset management approach.
