Job introduction

Social Work students: Are you about to finish your final placement?

We are recruiting New Qualified Social Workers, with a chance to start your employment with us before you qualify, and if it suits you, as soon as you finish your placement*

Brighton and Hove is committed to excellence in social work education and practice development. We’ve invested in people and in systems to help you thrive as a social worker. We offer comprehensive continuing professional development opportunities, including your ASYE, the chance to train as a practice educator, an Approved Mental Health Practitioner, depending on your interests.

About the role

Brighton is a challenging and rewarding place to work, our demographic is unique and you’ll need to show that you have experience of working with diverse situations and multi-disciplinary contexts. You will need to have had some experience of completing assessments under the Care Act, some exposure to safeguarding work and the Mental Capacity Act.

We want you to be conversant about the pressures Adult Social Care is facing and might be facing in the future and to be able to articulate how you will work creatively to ensure that our customers can live independent and fulfilled lives as part of stronger communities.

If this sounds like you then we have opportunities across our Adult Social Care services. Opportunities may be in mental health services, older people and physical health services or hospital teams.

Here is what NQSWs say about working at BHCC:

‘I’ve found the BHCC ASYE programme to be an excellent start to my social work career. The cohort of ASYEs who are an asset to the programme as it is comforting to have a group of people who are sharing the same experience.’

‘I was extremely surprised by the professional freedom I am given to practice how I want and I have been encouraged by everyone to try new things and be creative. Management have supported me and facilitated this and are always keen to give feedback.’

‘I like how Brighton and Hove is a small local authority so you get to know colleagues in other teams but they are still forward thinking in many ways.’

We look forward to meeting you. For an informal conversation please contact Anna Bouch, Professional Education Consultant on 07900 705244, anna.bouch@brighton-hove.gov.uk

Closing date: 11th March 2021

Interviews: week beginning 15th March 2021

*We can employ you straight after placement in a social care worker post that doesn’t need a qualification. This will be a 3 month temporary contract initially, pending you passing your social work qualification at which point you will transfer onto a Social Worker permanent contract (subject to performance).

If this applies to you please still address the criteria on the attached NQSW person specification- just make it clear when you’ll be qualifying.
