Islington Council is looking for a enthusiastic and motivated individual for the role of Public Health Intelligence and Information Analyst.  A 12 month fixed term contract. The post is within our integrated public health, housing and adult social care Knowledge Intelligence & Performance team.

About us

Camden and Islington Public Health is a shared public health service, forming part of both Camden and Islington Councils, and leading the way in improving the health and wellbeing of both boroughs’ populations and reducing health inequalities. Based in two of the most diverse boroughs in London, with significant areas of deprivation, we have been working across both organisations and with health and other partners over a number of years to reduce health inequalities and improve health outcomes.

The post is part of the Public Health Knowledge, Intelligence and Performance (KIP) team, which specialises in the management and analysis of qualitative information (Knowledge) and quantitative epidemiology/statistics & Adult Social Care and Housing performance data (Intelligence & Performance). The remit of the team is to turn health data and information into knowledge and intelligence that underpins policy decisions to improve population health and reduce inequalities.

It is an exciting time to join the council as we continue to work closely with the NHS, Public Health England and local partners to control the spread of Covid-19 , keep vital services running and to help those most in need.  We are building on our ‘Using Data Better’ programme internally, which will see a step change in the way we use data through working together differently and improving our digital capabilities. Additionally, across the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) in North London, we have procured Cerner’s HealtheIntent - a population health management platform which is enabling us to use data better across social care and the NHS to improve outcomes.

About the role

As part of our established specialist Public Health Knowledge, Intelligence and Performance team, The Public Health Intelligence and Information Analysts will be responsible for drawing together information from a variety of NHS and local government sources in traditional and innovative ways to monitor patterns of health, social care and housing use, health inequalities and its determinants.  This will include COVID surveillance analysis and associated analytics, including deeper analysis on the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 in our population.

The successful candidates will be part of a large analytical team with opportunities to make a real difference to local public sector delivery. The responsibilities of the role cover a mixture of public health, adult social care, and housing data analysis, working with colleagues and stakeholders from within and outside the organisation.

The post holder will also take a lead on project management of larger health intelligence projects (including working closely with internal and external stakeholders), as well as supporting others (eg junior analysts) in the team.

About you

We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and motivated individuals, with experience of quantitative health research or analysis.

The successful candidate will be able to analyse and synthesise information from a wide range of sources and have a post-graduate qualification in a numerate subject (e.g. public health, statistics, etc.) or equivalent experience. The roles will suit those who are substantially numerate, with a proven record of pulling together complex reports with excellent data analysis and presentation. Experience in Public Health, Housing or Adult Social Care would be an advantage, including familiarity with delivering statutory returns and/or use of software such as Business Objects, SQL or Stata. You’ll also have experience in project management and bring excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) to the role.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your project management and managerial skills, while working on a wide reaching programme of work. You will need to be good at working in partnership with other organisations, as well as people with different knowledge and skills, and with those at a senior level.
