The role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced EDT Sessional Mental Health Practitioner AMHP to work in a dynamic team that is linked to Camden’s out of hours Emergency Duty Team. The role is to act as an Approved Mental Health Professional, mainly undertaking and recording formal Mental Health Act assessments in hospitals and police stations. Other tasks will include advising callers and taking on such tasks that may be necessary relevant to dealing with people with Mental Health difficulties, and other vulnerable adults.
Sessional AMHPs will work from 10am to 8pm on a weekend day or bank holiday on a rota agreed with EDT manager. They will be expected to complete Mental Health Act Assessments in Hospitals, Police Stations and exceptionally elsewhere. Appropriate forms and reports will need timely completion. Other tasks appropriate to the role may also be allocated.
Please note a degree of flexibility is required for this role as you will need to commit to doing occasional weekend daytime shifts on Saturdays, Sundays and weekends paid on an hourly basis.
Any overtime will be reimbursed on the agreed hourly rate, and any sessional AMHP has access to Camden AMHP training. Essential equipment will be provided.
Sessional AMHPs will have access to the on call EDT senior Practitioner, or EDT manager to discuss any assessments, and issues arising.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

To be considered for this exciting opportunity it is essential the successful candidate is an Approved Mental Health Practitioner, with sound knowledge of Mental Health Acts. You will have previous demonstrable experience of managing a varied caseload. Being an Approved Mental Health Act Practitioner is essential, but you will have had experience working with other client groups, or be able to demonstrate your potential and knowledge regarding those client groups outside of any current specialism. You will have a significant knowledge of relevant legislation affecting Social Work Practice including Children Acts, the Care Act, the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty safeguards, the Human Rights Act, Police and Criminal Evidence Act and any other relevant legislation, and be able to work within legal and procedural requirements.
Sound knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the Human Rights Act is also essential. Additional knowledge of Children’s legislation and the Care Act is highly desirable.
You will be able to work independently and efficiently, keeping a focus on the needs of each service user.
