We are looking for OTs with experience or interest in working with children and young people from 0-25 years old with complex needs to be part of an exciting and dynamic service. The SEND OT services collaboratively with health and education colleagues sharing knowledge skills and learning to inform high-quality practice. We have integrated pathways for children with complex needs, such as our newly established equipment ordering pathway,  and are co-located at the modern and well-equipped Wood Street Health Centre near the good bus, trains, and tube links.

The Service:

OT team is part of the integrated Waltham Forest SEND service. Our Occupational therapists assist children and young people (aged 0-25 years) with long term physical conditions and disabilities that impact their ability to manage independently at home, for example, those who need special equipment as a result of their physical difficulties or housing adaptations.

The occupational therapist (OT) will assess the child’s needs and may carry out assessments with company representatives to try out pieces of equipment and then order and provide any necessary support. As the child grows and their needs change this equipment may need to be reviewed, modified, and replaced.

We are looking for registered and qualified paediatric OTs with experience in:

  • Specialist equipment for bathing, seating, toileting, changing and dressing, sleeping
  • Equipment to help movement from one place to another and manual handling - hoists and slings
  • Adaptations to the property such as a ramp, through floor stairlifts, level access showers
  • Assessment for home safety issues or needs related to behavioural difficulties, for example, window locks or stair gates

For an informal conversation about the role, please contact Joanna Mahadoo, Waltham Forest SEND Service Manager on 07976763772.
