Home Safe Practitioner
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service in Islington, as it's Home Safe Practitioner. This is a newly established, part-time position, which will play a key role in supporting children, young people and adult survivors of domestic violence and abuse, through a ground-breaking group programme; the Sunflower Project. This is a multi-level prevention programme that includes both a wider universal offer across education settings to address gender discrimination and gender equality in schools, and a more targeted approach with children, young people and adult survivors of domestic violence and abuse through safe space group work.
Our education services in Islington work with schools using the Trauma Informed Practice Model, which provides a framework for understanding children and young people's developmental needs, how their experiences are expressed through behaviour, and practitioners' skills to engage vulnerable children, young people, families and carers.
The successful candidate will lead in the establishment, development and delivery of the Sunflower Project across education settings to create age appropriate safe space for children and young people to explore their experiences of abuse; enable greater resilience and healthy coping strategies, and create peer support networks. The successful candidate will also lead on establishing a similar group programme for adult survivors of domestic violence and abuse; work strategically with education settings; as well as work in partnership with specialist agencies in the borough to support schools with the implementation of human rights and gender equality initiatives. The post holder will have experience of:
- Delivering group programmes with young people and adults
- Holding an in-depth knowledge of the VAWG agenda and issues of intersectionality
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of professionals
- Empowering children and young people
- Hold knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures in order to manage risks for vulnerable children and young people
You will work alongside a highly skilled and motivated workforce and a leadership team with ambition to improve the lives of our vulnerable young people and commitment to flexible, creative approaches to helping them. You will influence practice with your specialist knowledge and skills through reporting, role modelling and promoting best practice in your team's areas of expertise. You will receive regular reflective supervision and join an organisational culture where children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.
The Home Safe Practitioner is an exciting role within this outstanding organisation. If you are empathetic, passionate about equality and are able to work in a trauma informed way with creative concepts to inspire and empower survivors of domestic violence and abuse, we would like to hear from you.
