Forensic Social Worker (Level 2/3)

Fixed Term/ Secondment for 6 months

We are seeking a motivated individual to join a team of 18 social workers at North London Forensic Service based in Chase Farm Hospital part of Specialist Services. NLFS provides care for mentally disordered offenders who are detained under the MHA within medium and low secure settings including specialist services for women and patients with a learning disability. The SW England registered social worker, who may be an AMHP, will have mental health practice experience and in line with the 'Forensic Mental Health Social Work: Capabilities Framework' will bring a social perspective to the multi-disciplinary team’s formulation and in delivering appropriate interventions. They will discharge statutory duties, work in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders and agencies; ensure that effective bridges are built between in-patient detention and community discharge processes which promote social inclusion and recovery. Professional development opportunities are available for practitioners at all levels. Main tasks;

  • Working with approximately 20 patients across 2 wards & 2 MDT's, assessing risk and social care needs and identifying appropriate discharge pathways

  • Responding to Safeguarding concerns, (adults and children)

  • Applying relevant legislation and guidance in practice eg. MHA, MCA (assessments of capacity), Care Act, Criminal Justice Act, Children Act, HRA, DVCV Act etc.

  • Working with families, victims and family victims, making referrals to MAPPA, MARAC

  • Completing various social work reports e.g. MHT & MHAM (presenting report to the MHT & MHAM hearings), CPA, social circumstances admission reports etc.

  • Holding in balance public protection with the least restrictive option principle.

  • Working alongside a community social worker from the patient's Responsible Borough to complete, Care Act Assessments, housing and funding panel applications.

Fixed Term post/Secondment Opportunity

An external candidate, including Enfield Council agency workers, would be appointed on a fixed term contract, whilst internal candidates who are Council employees, would normally be expected to take up the post on a secondment basis.

To be eligible to apply for a secondment, Enfield Council employees must have completed probation and must have discussed/agreed the proposed secondment with their line manager. Fixed term contracts may be considered where secondment is not possible.

Secondments are the temporary loan of an employee from one part of the organisation to another part of the organisation and rely on the secondee to return to their substantive position on completion of the secondment.
